Get Paid With Gig Walker – Diary of a Gigwalker

Diary of a Gigwalker

As a GigWalker you'll be paid to perform small tasks using your Smartphone. Youʼll find a mix of mystery shops, small jobs to perform in stores and website evaluations. The app is currently only available in the United States, Canada, and the UK. Most gigs take around thirty minutes and pay between $7 to $25 per gig. Some Gigwalkers report occasionally getting jobs that pay $50 to $100 and while that may be true, based on my years of checking into Gigwalk those jobs are few and far between.

How It Works

When you open the app, it uses your phone's GPS to display available gigs near you.

Each gig includes essential information: title, distance to the closest location, and the number of available spots in your area.

You can even tackle multiple locations for the same gig, which maximizes your earnings by saving time.

Gig Details

Click on a gig to reveal the addresses, payout details, distance from your current location, start and end dates, and estimated task duration.

Be aware that gig descriptions may not cover all requirements. Sometimes, there's more to a task than meets the eye! For instance, I once accepted a gig that seemed simple—just taking a picture of a price list. However, after accepting the gig, additional steps surfaced: pretending to be interested in the service, signing up, and asking specific questions. Definitely more involved than a mere snapshot and not worth the $7 being offered!

Approval and Payout

After clicking a gig, you might need to wait for approval (usually a few hours to a few days). In some cases, like mine, approval is instant. I was actually sitting in the parking lot, clicked on the gig and it was immediately available.

Once your work passes a quality check, you can expect your payout within three to ten days via PayPal.

Keep in mind that companies verify your work, and some clients may reject submissions. Clear, high-quality pictures and accurate answers are crucial. While I donʼt believe that companies reject work simply to not pay, they will reject your work if your pictures are blurry, pictures donʼt show what was asked for, or your answers to questions donʼt give the information asked for. For instance, if the client asks “Were you greeted within five minutes of your arrival?ˮ and your answer is “We had to wait awhile before anyone greeted us.ˮ then you didnʼt answer the question.

Pro Tip: when performing any gig make sure your Location Services (GPS) is on and that youʼve enabled Location Services from within your cameraʼs app. This shows clients that you took your pictures at the correct location.

Playing the Waiting Game

When I first joined Gigwalk there was one gig in three different locations that was offering $7 per location. A few days later the ante was upped to $10. After one week the pay was raised to $12, a few days later to $15, then $20, and finally $25. So, playing the waiting game might gain you some extra $$.

Website Evaluations

I applied for two website evaluations on day one. Ten days later they disappeared from my Wait List and didnʼt appear in My Gigs list, so I didnʼt get those gigs. A couple of days later I applied for two more website evaluations which I didnʼt get either. Iʼll keep trying for these though. The application takes less than ten seconds, and the payout is $10 per evaluation.

Responsibility Matters

When you apply for a Gig, the client is depending on you to complete the work. Once a gig is in your to-do list, it's no longer available for other GigWalkers. If you can't complete a gig, withdraw responsibly:

  • Go to the My Upcoming Gigs tab.
  • Select the Gig you want to be removed from.
  • Click UNASSIGN in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Confirm your removal by selecting Yes.

Your Score

To boost your Gigwalk performance score and earn as much extra cash as possible, be thorough and professional about the work that you do and submit. When a customer sees that you consistently do good work for them, they have the ability to add you to their private workforce. This grants you access to private Gigs available only for this group.

Gig Walk Pro Plan

Get the Gig

  • Completely fill out your profile.
  • Check the app once a day, making sure to check both the Available and My Gigs screens. Once youʼve completed a gig you can keep track of it on the Completed screen.

Evaluating a Gig

  1. Quickly review the name of the store and the distance to see if getting to the location is worth it to you. For instance, a gig at Nordstromʼs means Iʼll need to park in a mall parking lot with a long walk to the store and being a large store that Iʼm not familiar with it will take me time to find the department I need to do my gig in. However, a gig at Home Depot means Iʼll get paid to drive to a store where I already need to shop.
  2. If a Gig has more than one location, this can be lucrative since youʼll only need to review the instructions once and youʼll get more proficient as you evaluate each location.
  3. If you like what you see, click on the title of the gig to get a better idea of whatʼs expected of you. If you like what you see, then click on Apply.
  4. If after accepting a gig you no longer wish to perform it, then be sure to withdraw using the instructions above and donʼt just let it sit in your Available Gigs.

Bottom Line

New gigs are infrequent in my area, so I check them in the morning when Iʼm checking in with the other platforms I work with, but not multiple times a day like I do with other platforms. Happy gigging - maybe youʼll be the one to score a $100 gig!
